“However the UTD MX stood out an EXTREMELY hazardous concept, with no proper testing, no user focus group trials on the concept we are aware of. Lethal designs with no safety net at all, such as the MX that can kill in a minute, should not be used. This UTD MX should be banned and recalled immediately. Production, Import, Sale or commercial use of this unit in Europe is illegal, and any use of it courts suicide. […] To quote "The MX series is a "true" mCCR rebreather configuration, in that nothing adds gas to the breathing loop without the diver's input. It is the next generation of rebreathers designed by UTD to incorporate the best of both UTD/DIR and CCR worlds; it takes the advantages and simplicity of the mCCR world and the advantages and consistent configuration from the UTD/DIR world." In fact it is not an mCCR at all, it is a truly lethal box that requires intervention at astonishing frequency to keep the diver alive, without any safety net at all. The speed in which the UTD can kill without any O2 input is frightening: it seems a very irresponsible unit to introduce, and far away from the normal mCCRs where the diver is kept alive and base metabolism is covered by a constant flow.”
