From Letter from the Editor, Quest 10.2, 4/1/09, Spring 2009:
"Spring is a time of renewal and this spring is no different; I have been informed that, in addition to a Recreational Diver Program, GUE's long-awaited DIR Snorkelling Program is being scheduled for release.

Here is what I have been told by the Director of Training: The DIR Snorkelling Program will be comprised of three hierarchically ordered classes: a Recreational Level 1 (Snorkelling fundamentals) class, a Technical Level 2 (DIR Snorkeller) class, and an Expert Level 3 (DIR Apnoea) class.
Dir Snorkeling will be prerequisite for everyone wishing to continue in GUE’s recreational, technical or cave programs from now on. Effecting immediately, all existing GUE certified divers should return back and enrol to the DIR Snorkelling program, in order to maintain their existing GUE divers status. Those who fail to do will be return to their past stroke level and expelled from GUE.

The Snorkelling fundamentals class will function as GUE's entry-level class; it will span eight days, have a depth limit of 40ft/12 m, and will incorporate the use of DIR snorkel configuration as well as in-water rescue training. Structurally the class will be made up of three academic modules, three confined water modules, and four days of open water training.

Building on the theory and practice of the Snorkelling fundamental class, the Technical Level 2 or DIR Snorkeler class will function as GUE’s advanced or recreational deep class; it will span five days and have a depth limit of 100ft/30m.

The final level in this series will be the Expert Level 3 or DIR Apnoea class. In this class, technical snorkelers will be taught to dive safely to a depth of 130ft/40m.

The program will be launched this year by April Fool’s Day all over the world.

Exciting days lie ahead.

Safe Snorkelling,"
