DSAT Announces Restructured TecRec Program

DSAT Announces Restructured TecRec Program and Free Instructor Crossover

Growing market for advanced technical diving provides opportunities for PADI professionals.

Rancho Santa Margarita, CA - On 1 September, DSAT will roll out the newly restructured and revised TecRec program. TecRec now includes five diver level certifications – Tec 40, Tec 45, Tec 50, Tec Trimix 65 and Tec Trimix Diver. The numbers in the course names correspond with the maximum depth limit (in metres) for that certification.

Tec Trimix 65 is a new intermediate certification between Tec 50 and Tec Trimix Diver. This course will be for tec divers who are interested getting started with trimix (depth is limited to 65 metres/210 feet). DSAT Tec Trimix Instructors may teach the Tec Trimix 65 course.

DSAT is also unveiling a new instructor opportunity, bringing the number of TecRec Instructor levels to three. The newest credential is Tec Instructor, a rating that allows you to teach Tec 40. If you’re already an instructor with another technical training organization and would like to certify TecRec divers, a free crossover is available through 2009. You can take the instructor exam and submit your application at no cost. This amounts to a saving of about $239 US compared to normal fees. To qualify for this offer, you must meet the following requirements:

· Be a renewed PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer or PADI Instructor with a higher rating.
· Be a PADI Enriched Air Instructor.
· Be a PADI Deep Diver Specialty Instructor.
· Be certified as a DSAT Tec 45 diver or have a qualifying certification from another training organization. For the purposes of this level, a qualifying certification is one that qualifies you to make decompression dives to 45 metres/145 feet using air, EANx and oxygen using double cylinder, open circuit scuba equipment.
· Have a certification from another training organization that qualifies as a Tec Instructor or higher. For the purposes of this certification, a qualifying certification is qualification to teach open circuit decompression diving using air and enriched air to a depth of 40 metres/130 feet.
· Have a minimum of 20 stage decompression dives in doubles.
· Have successfully completed the Tec Instructor Exam.
· Have taught or assisted with two courses that qualify as meeting the requirements of the DSAT Tec 40 courses, or have assisted with one DSAT Tec 40 course.

Requirements for Tec Deep Instructor and Tec Trimix Instructor remain unchanged.
